I'm interested in hearing a comparison of Carvin's excellent pickups to Kinman's. You can't lose either way! Cool Cool

That's what I'm thinkin'! I was playin' my Kinmanized Strat (the MIJ one I got from Voodoo) a few nights ago, and switching to my Carvin Bolt-T (Sapphire), and the Kinmans produce a tad more of that desirable crystalline Strat quack, and a bit less extraneous noise. Plus, the individual notes in a chord sound a little clearer with the Kinman pickups. I think Sapphire would enjoy the upgrade. Carvin's pups are a great value for the buck, though. Kinman pickups are kind of like Gibsons, expensive, but considered worth the investment by some demanding buyers, present company included. Cool

Well, I done done it. Sapphire now has a full set of Chris Kinman's finest, the Woodstock Plus model, finely installed into her innards. I have gigged them, and I can tell you we've made an improvement. It's probably not worth the cost of the improvement, because Carvin's stock pickups are excellent. But, in this present condition, Sapphire can out-Strat any Strat I've ever touched, and she is by far the quietest guitar I own. I'm talkin' dead quiet. She makes less noise out in the garage than any of my humbucker equipped babies. Even my Les Paul, and I spent a whole night applying Copper foil to all the inner routings on that puppy.

So, another satisfied Kinman customer. My third set of mankind's best single coil-like pickups. Defense rests. Cool

OK, I've had my weekend with my Les Paul, and I got that fix taken care of. Now I can get back to the real fun of playin' Sapphire! Get back, Jack! Cool

Latest update!

Last night Sapphire got a new set of strings. Plus, I swapped out my pickguard loaded with, get this, Carvin AP-11s & and a C228 hummer. We're doin' a song this weekend that just had to have a Wilkinson whammy and a humbucker.

And you know what, she still sounds great! Now I'm thinkin' I'll find another Srat body somewhere and build my own KinmanCaster. I've got most of the rest of the parts I'll need already.

Yeah, I kinda thought puttin' Kinmans in the Carvin was a wasted effort......you can't improve perfection! Cool Cool

Well, I had to prove it to myself! It's a done deal. I played Sapphire at the service tonite, and she rocked. Nice tone, nice action. Cool
