Oh man, that auction got stopped because it was "no longer available for sale." I was watching that one, and actually thinking about jumping in there. |

I think someone made an offer and the seller probably accepted and stopped the auction.
That was a nice one! |

Yes, that was one beautiful hunk of wood. I was hoping I wouldn't end up bidding against you, so I guess that got taken care of for us!
Dang, though, that would have made a nice addition to my Carvins. I don't have one of the TL60s yet.
Oh well, let the Quest go on!
Stay tuned,
Stan |

I would love to find one with three single coils, Wilkinson Trem and six-inline tuners.
Might have to break down and order a new if I can ever afford it. |

I'll keep an eye out for one like that for you. I'm always skimming through Ebay, and I check the Carvin listings at least a couple of times a week. Sooner or later, one will show up! |

OK, I finally got a Carvin, two actually. I have a DC135 Koa in Translucent Blue and a TL60 Natural finish Koa.
The DC135 is supposed to arrive tomorrow and the TL60 is shipping tomorrow or Monday.
I will post pics when they get here. |

OK, I received my DC135 today. It has a Wikey trem, full sized humbucker at the bridge and single coil humbuckers with rails at the neck & middle.
This is my first Carvin and I am impressed. The craftsmanship is impeccable.
It is lightweight and perfectly balanced when I wear it with a strap. The neck profile is a little larger than I'm used to but the action is INCREDIBLE! Now I know what everybody has been raving about.
I'm not real happy with the PUs on first impression. They seem a little muddy but I haven't got to play the guitar a lot yet. The middle PU isn't working, but I knew that when I bought it.
I don't like the mini toggles for turning the PUs on & off. I wish it had a 5-way switch like a strat.
I was told that it was made of KOA but I don't think it is since the guitar is so light. Maybe one of you Carvin experts could shed some light on what it's made of. See pics below. It's translucent blue but turns to green depending on the light.
Overall I'd say that this guitar is comparable to a custom made guitar costing 5 times as much.
I have a TL-60 coming in next week with two PUs and a slider switch like a strat. I'll post pics when it gets here. I don't think I'll be able to afford to keep both but we'll see.
Anyways, here's a couple of pics.

Congratulations, Hobo! Welcome to the Carvin Club! So that's your first one, eh? Well, yes that kind of quality is what we've been raving about for years, but not enough people take the chance and try them out. I still believe that they are the best bargains out there, anywhere.
That body could very well be Koa under that beautiful finish. Koa is in the mahogany family, and it does usually have more colors and figuring in it than the regular mahogany that we're used to seeing. I believe that Koa is only indigenous to Hawaii.
I agree with your description of the tones being a bit muddy with double bladed pups you have there. Those two are probably Carvin's TBH60s in those front two positions. They are humbuckers and won't get you that Fender-like spank that come from single coils. and AP-11 and an AP-11R in there, you'll get a lot more of that crispy single coil tone, and better tones on the combinations of pickups.
You'll get used to that neck pretty quick, I sure did. I still find myself playing my Carvins more than most of my other guitars.
How do you like that Wilkinson?
Play on,

Been playing for hours today and I'm getting used to the neck pretty quick.
I think I will love the Wilkey but I haven't had the chance to use it yet. The person I bought it from forgot to put the arm in the case. They shipped it a couple of days later so I should get it next week.
I was under the impression that Koa was a heavier wood. That's why I was questioning the wood.
The previous owner says it is Koa. He is the original owner. Bought it from Carvin about 7 or 8 years ago. |
